“It was powerful to feel that I have control over helping my body heal after childbirth.”
Meet Amy
I got pregnant pretty quickly after my first childbirth, a C-section, and I felt like my body never fully recovered from the first baby. I had to see a physical therapist (PT) during that second pregnancy due to an abdominal separation, and I also needed PT postpartum to return to CrossFit and HIIT exercises without leaking.
My second childbirth was also a C-section, but I labored quite a bit with that one and my pelvic floor took more of a hit. It was really weak after that birth. I had urinary urgency and was also leaking with jumping and higher intensity workouts, not to mention leaking with sneezing and coughing.
My PT set me up with Flyte when I was about 10 months postpartum. Flyte was pretty user friendly and easy to figure out once I started. I felt like my pelvic floor got stronger using Flyte, and I also felt like Flyte showed me how to activate and do a proper Kegel. After 4 weeks of Flyte my bladder leaks went away! I was able to get back to working out without being nervous and had so much more confidence.
It was powerful to feel that I have control over helping my body heal after childbirth. OBGYNs are great at treating pregnant women but the postpartum part gets left for moms to figure out on their own, so it was nice to have Flyte. People don’t realize they need to advocate for themselves instead of waiting for a doctor to notice something and push them in the right direction.
As a mom and a RN, I can tell you that taking care of your body is a great way to take care of your mental health as well. I am now back to doing HIIT classes and weightlifting; my body can do what I want it to do and is even getting stronger!
Being able to openly talk about your journey is important. There are many other moms going through the same thing you are. We should use each other to figure out what is out there that can help! You won’t regret taking care of your body right away in the postpartum period.
